John Dupré will be presenting the Gifford Lectures

John Dupré will be presenting the Gifford Lectures at the University of Edinburgh during the academic year 2022-23. This prestigious lecture series was established in 1888 from a bequest by Adam Lord Gifford (1820–1887). The purpose of Lord Gifford's bequest to the universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, St. Andrews and Aberdeen was to sponsor lectures to “promote and diffuse the study of Natural Theology in the widest sense of the term -in other words, the knowledge of God”.

The many distinguished past Gifford lecturers from across the range of academic disciplines and beyond, have included Hannah Arendt, Henri Bergson, Noam Chomsky, John Dewey, William James, Alfred North Whitehead, Werner Heisenberg and Rowan Williams. John will present a series of six lectures on the topic “A Process Perspective on Human Life”.

John will also present a single Gifford lecture at the University of Aberdeen in February 2022, as part of a series of six lectures in a variety of disciplines celebrating the centenary of the birth of Adam Lord Gifford. His lecture is provisionally entitled “Evolution Evolving”.
